Answering the Call

Discerning Religious Life as a Benedictine Sister

Thank you for your interest in the Benedictine Sisters. We are a Monastic Community of women founded in Cuba in 1911. We devote our daily life to Pray and Work. Our mission calls us to seek God in community and to respond in ministry through sharing our spirituality and addressing the needs of the people we serve, especially the poor.

Answering a call to Religious life can take time. Every person is blessed in different ways and therefore the process toward a commitment to Monastic life can vary from person to person. Certain characteristics, including a desire to experience Monastic life and spiritual growth, physical health, psychological health, and financial responsibility are among the factors that are taken into account when a candidate is interviewed. Knowledge of our monastery, daily work and prayer life, and ministries are other important areas addressed when a woman is discerning a commitment with our community.

Serious candidates seeking to enter the Boerne Benedictine Community are required both psychological and physical examinations to help determine the candidate’s overall well-being.
