Ways to Give

Will and Estate Planning

Have circumstances changed in your life that necessitate establishing or updating your will? If so, please consider remembering the Benedictine Sisters. In doing so, your legacy will live on in the lives of many who benefit from the Sisters’ programs and outreach work in the communities of south Texas.

Our legal title is Congregation of Benedictine Sisters and we are a 501(c)3 charitable organization.

For more information, please contact your estate planner, attorney, or our Treasurer’s office at 830-816-8504.

Matching Gifts

Many companies will match employees’ charitable gifts. Your company’s human resource department should be able to tell you if there is a matching gift program and how your donation to the Sisters can go twice as far with a matching gift.

Areas needing support

This type of gift will be used to support the most needed area at the time it is received.

Sisters’ Retirement Needs

Sisters' retirementUntil the mid-1970’s, most women Religious were not paid equitably for their tireless work in schools, parishes, health care or other worthy professions. Not only were they underpaid, they did not pay into the Social Security Program. Though our Sisters began to see an increase in compensation in the ‘70’s, we did not participate in the Social Security Program until the early 1990’s. Therefore, our Retirement Fund is deeply under-funded. Our goal is to ensure that every Sister receives the necessary care for a quality and dignified life-style during their retirement years.

Monastery Building Fund

MonasteryThe original house at St. Scholastica Monastery was built in the early 1900’s. The glass chapel, community room and offices were added in the 1970’s. With the exception of upkeep and minor repairs, the Monastery has required little maintenance until now. Currently we are facing major capital improvements including replacing the gas and water lines and electrical circuit breakers and meter loops. In time, we will also be looking to add rooms to the Monastery to accommodate our Sisters who will require 24 hour attention and care.

Corporate Responsibility

In an era when Corporate greed has lead to global economic meltdown, fraud, loss of individuals’ hard earned savings, unethical working practices, and government bailouts, our Corporate Responsibility Program is needed more than ever! Since 1982, we use the power of stock ownership to raise often unpopular issues with management and boards of directors including: human rights policies, unjust employment practices, executive compensation, emissions reductions, predatory credit card practices, health care principles, and hydraulic fracturing. During the past year, resolutions were filed with nineteen major Corporations. We are making progress but need your support to further the efforts of this important program.

Caridad de Corazón

Caridad de Corazón (Charity of the Heart) was established in Eagle Pass, Texas in 2000 in response to the unmet needs of the poor and disenfranchised living on both sides of the United States and Mexican border.

To date, thousands of people in need have been helped through services provided by Caridad including the distribution of food provisions, household goods, clothing, and medical equipment; educational scholarships; and prison ministry. Your support is needed to continue this worthy outreach program.
